OSWESTRY Town Council and its staff were recognised at a national market awards ceremony recently.

The council won a small market achievement award for the Oswestry Town Markets' continued improvements, investment, and impressive record of full occupancy.

And the council’s finance officer, Roger Dyke, was also presented with a special achievement award by Simon Baynes, MP for Clwyd South, at the awards in Harrogate.

Mr Baynes said: “I am a proud supporter of local markets and have previously introduced legislation in Parliament calling on the government to revisit funding for this vital sector.

“We can take great pride in our markets across north Shropshire, and it was a particular pleasure to honour Oswestry Town Council, Oswestry Markets and Roger Dyke at the NABMA Awards ceremony in Harrogate.”

Mr Baynes was there to honour Oswestry Town Council with the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) small market award for Market Achievement at the NABMA Conference Award Ceremony on Monday, October 9.

Mr Baynes was the guest speaker at the NABMA Conference in his capacity as the chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Markets and Market Traders.

As well as speaking at the awards ceremony, Mr Baynes presented a number of awards to market operators across the UK.

Mr Dyke won the award for his work as Oswestry Town Council’s Finance Officer and as NABMA Finance Manager.
