COUNCILLORS in Oswestry could put up some of the money needed to clear overgrown pavements on key walking routes.
Oswestry Town Council will discuss an informal approach from Selattyn and Gobowen Parish Council regarding the pavements – particularly Gobowen Road – which connect the town to the A5.
Included in the agenda item is correspondence from the parish council showing a quote from the only business of three approached to respond for the work, which would cost just under £23,500.

The agenda item said: “Selattyn and Gobowen Parish Council is undertaking work to address the issue of overgrown pavements and the hazards that these create for pedestrians along key walking routes.
“They are focusing on two key routes namely Oswestry to Gobowen and Gobowen to St Martins.
“The parish council is suggesting a partnership approach to clear the entire length of road between the Orthopaedic roundabout and Oswestry.”
The work would be largely completed from close to the hillfort and Pentre-Clawdd farm.
Meanwhile, locations to be considered in Shropshire Council’s polling station review have been put to councillors to approve.
In Oswestry East, there is one recommendation to change from the no-longer-available Hope Church to the former Sure Start building at Holy Trinity school.
In Oswestry South, a temporary access ramp would be needed at Horeb Welsh Methodist Rooms while in Oswestry West, no issues have been reported.
Also on the agenda is a motion to buy a painting of the Guildhall from the recent ART-efact exhibitions in September.
The agenda item says: “Council will be aware of the ART-efact project which was the centrepiece of Oswestry’s 2023 creative programme “Summer of Art” and built upon the successes of the Love Oswestry events nurtured by the town’s Cultural Consortium.
“There is an opportunity to purchase a prominent piece from the programme – a painting of the Guildhall and an Oswestry Town Council colleague from one of the artists.
“The cost would be £200. This is an opportunity to purchase a modern painting of the Guildhall as well as a demonstration of support for the programme.
“The painting would be hung in the Guildhall.”
The meeting is at the Guildhall on Wednesday, October 11 and will begin at 7pm.
