AN OSWESTRY shop owner is celebrating a decade in business - and says trading is stronger than ever.
The Oak Furniture Shop in Bailey Street is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in mid-October and will be offering cake to customers past and present, and to those who stop in.
The idea is the brainchild of co-owner Jane Rees who said she had to learn all about a new way of working when she opened the store in 2013.
But she was quick to thank customers for their role in making the store such a presence in Bailey Street, a major shopping area in Oswestry.
She said: “I started the shop in 2013, never expecting we would still be here 10 years later, but we are thanks to the wonderful people of Oswestry.

“We have done our best to make the shop a welcoming, informal and sociable place, with customer service being a really high priority, as well as making sure everything we have here is good quality and value for money.
“I’ve had to learn so much over the years, from bookkeeping and the inevitable spreadsheets, to shipping, websites, and huge amounts of product knowledge on our furniture and beds.
“However, it’s the customers who make it all worthwhile, we’ve met such a lot of lovely people over the years and made so many friends.”
Jane says the key to their success has been keeping prices very competitive to encourage people to shop locally and offering an ‘exceptional delivery service always going above and beyond for customers’.
She added: “We have Elaine, and Lorina in the shop as well, so there are three of us who know what we are doing and believe in spending time with our customers to make sure we get it right.
“We do our best to buy from UK manufacturers too, this has cut down delivery times on our sofas, and we have a firm philosophy in the shop that sofas have to be comfortable and practical.
“We’ve survived the lockdowns, rate increases and love our shop, and our customers, to whom we are immensely grateful for their support over the last 10 years.”
To celebrate the anniversary, there will be a little gift for every customer buying any of the oak furniture or a bed or mattress during the birthday week beginning Monday, October 16-21 and some fabulous offers on selected items too.
Jane added: “We would love it if customers, past and present could pop in and say hello and wish the shop a happy birthday, there will be cake.”
