WORK to improve traffic signals at a busy Oswestry junction will take place next month, subject to planning approval.

Oswestry Town Council says it has been contacted by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council to alert them of plans to upgrade the traffic signals, including bollards at the junction of Leg Street and Cross Street.

Currently, the bollards stop traffic from entering the latter during the daytime while, according to WSP, a traffic regulation order will be implemented to confirm the current banned right turn from Leg Street into Oswald Road.

Councillors will be asked to note the work.

OTHER NEWS:

An agenda item states: “All the traffic signals equipment including the signal controller will be replaced with new ELV (Extra Low Voltage) equipment to improve safety and reduce power consumption.

“This scheme includes the proposal to implement a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) for the banned right turn movement from Leg Street to Oswald Road.

“Once the TRO is approved this will need to be advertised in the local newspapers for a period of 21 days, to allow for any concerns or complaints to be heard and responded to accordingly. The ‘NO ENTRY’ signs on the Oswald Road approach will be retained as part of the scheme.

“The upgrade scheme is planned to commence on site at the end of October this year, subject to approval of the ‘NO RIGHT TURN’ TRO and supply of traffic signals equipment.

“The current bollards have not been working for a couple of years and Oswestry Town Council have been providing a service for almost a decade.
