The date has been circled in red pen for months – but finally this weekend north Shropshire will enjoy one of the biggest events of the year when Oswestry Show rolls around.
Last year’s event was a phenomenal success, marking its return after a Covid-enforced absence, and this weekend sees is expected to be every bit as exciting.
Oswestry Show brings in huge crowds to the area, as people from all over the county flock to the Park Hall Showground on the edge of town, to enjoy a feast of farming and entertainment.
Excitement for the event is bound to be high as always, with 2022’s triumphant return whetting the appetite in Oswestry and beyond for a show that unites thousands of people with a love for food, farming and the great outdoors.

The show started life 161 years ago in October 1862, when it was held at the Smithfield cattle market, off English Walls.
It proved to be an instant hit, and action was taken to make it a regular fixture of the town’s calendar.

Attractions include the Village Green, livestock, machinery, horticulture, plus a food hall and model railway.
Meanwhile, show bosses are looking forward to building links with young people for the 2023 event.
The show has launched ‘Farming Friends’ which is a new initiative for primary school children which will help them gain more knowledge about how food arrives on our plates.
Show president David Ellis, along with retiring president Rev Prebendary David North and Janet Ward, Show chairman, said the aim is to establish an educational link.
He said: “The educational aspect is being delivered this year through ‘Farming Friends’.
“A logo competition was shared with the local primary schools.
“Two winners were chosen, both from Our Lady and St Oswald’s Catholic School in Oswestry.
“On Show Day, there will be a Treasure Hunt around the show for children of primary school aged.
“Treasure Hunt sheets will be available at the entrances with the questions starting from the small livestock section.
“We hope to build on this year on year so that local children and their families gain an insight and some knowledge of where their food comes from and life on our local farms.”
