THE CREATIVE spirit of Oswestry has been ignited with the much-anticipated launch of the "Stitch by Stitch" textile exhibition at the Willow Gallery on Willow Street.

The event was graced by the presence of Councillor Olly Rose, the Oswestry Town Mayor, who commended the exhibition and encouraged everyone to attend.

Organised by two local textile artists, Alison Holt and Suzette Smart, the exhibition is now one of the largest textile art showcases outside London, captivating art enthusiasts and visitors alike.

Councillor Rose said: “It’s fantastic, do go along.”

The "Stitch by Stitch" exhibition is set to run for eight weeks and promises more than just artistic displays.

Demonstrations and workshops have been organized to engage and inspire attendees.

Oswestry has been infused with the essence of the national theme for the 2023 Heritage Open Days: Creativity Unwrapped.

Embracing this inspiration, Oswestry's Cultural Consortium, the group behind the annual Love Oswestry festival, has orchestrated the "Summer of Art."

A celebration of creativity spanning the entire summer, the culmination of this grand event will coincide with the Heritage Open Days from September 8 to 16.

Central to the "Summer of Art" is the ART-efact project, led by local artist Holly Maries.

Collaborating with Oswestry Town Archives and Oswestry Town Museum, the ART-efact initiative calls upon four talented local artists to weave captivating tales of the town through their artistic expression.

These stories will be brought to life through a two-week exhibition at Shropshire Cycle Hub in Cross Market Hall during the Heritage Open Days festival.

As the summer unfolds, numerous exciting events are taking shape, enriching the artistic landscape of Oswestry.

The Qube's "New Beginnings" exhibition is already underway, showcasing remarkable creations by talented artists.

Other thrilling events include an open-air art workshop on Wilfred Owen Green, designed for children to immerse themselves in the wonders of creativity.

A stellar drama program titled "Sense of Place" will captivate audiences at Hope Church, featuring a performance at Hermon Arts.

The "Summer of Art" continues to unfold with theater performances and music at the enchanting Cae Glas Park, while the much-awaited "Culture Fest" awaits on Cross Street on September 9.

Guided tours of Oswestry take place every Saturday at 11 am, starting from the Tourist Information Centre.

History and poetry walks are also on the agenda for September, promising an enriching cultural experience for all.
