OSWESTRY’S Kinokulture is set to host a film about ‘Caministas’, pilgrims protesting climate change, on Sunday.
Filmmaker Benjamin Wigley is presenting his film “Of Walking on Thin Ice” at the Arthur Street-based cinema at 2pm ahead of its showing at the Edinburgh Festival next month.
The film follows a 500-mile pilgrimage, organised by Extinction Rebellion, which set off from London in 2021 and marched to the COP26 Summit in Glasgow.
Known as the Camino to COP26, it was a people’s walk that carried a message of love, hope, grief, fear, and connection with the natural world to leaders deciding on the future of our climate.
Filmmaker Wigley walked with the group, who became known as ‘Caministas’, filming their experiences and capturing the sense of pilgrimage on this emotional and purposeful journey.
He said: “More than a thousand walkers, aged from eight to 80 plus, joined the Camino for a few hours, a day or more, or completing the entire route to Glasgow.
“The pilgrimage, which spanned eight weeks and involved more than 56 host organisations.
"The purpose of the walk was to build alliances and engage communities along the route – faith communities and other communities – and to spread the word about the urgency of the need for meaningful action to address the global climate and ecological emergency."
