A POPULAR bar in Oswestry is set to come back after a six-month closure.

The Sports Lounge, in Cross Street, is making a return with pool, darts, live sports, and hopefully food.

The closure of the bar came after the sad passing of its previous owner, Andrew “Molly” Moreton.

Graeme Kirkham has recently taken it on and is hoping to restore it back to its former glory.

He said: “We’ve been closed since December, after Molly passed, and everything regarding The Sports Lounge was thrown in the air, and it’s been a process of working out what was going to happen next.

“But I’ve been working with the landlords and Pickstocks to find a solution.

“We’ve just signed a new lease and we’re hoping to invest in the property and get it tidied up, and hopefully provide a new sports bar.”

Graeme, who owns the neighbouring Knock and Snitch cocktail bar, explained that it has been a difficult time trying to make it work but he is happy that it all worked out.

He added: “It's been difficult to wrap my head around everything and I'm still so grateful to Molly for giving me the chance to build something and grow as a person, I'll never forget what he did for me.”

Graeme hopes to have a food offering, interactive darts boards and a place for people to watch the sports in the bar.

He continued: “We are trying to at least open the pool tables for the local clubs by the time the new season starts in September, but I am not sure when it will fully be open to the public.

“There will be a bit more of an emphasis of having somewhere to go and watch the sports.”

He is also planning an opening weekend, and a tournament between the regulars in memory of Andrew.

“I am not sure what that is going to look like,” Graeme said, “But we hope to do something for Molly’s memory.”
