CONTROVERSIAL plans to build eight homes close to a main Oswestry road have floundered again after the application was withdrawn from Shropshire Council.
Developers have tried on more than one occasion to build on the site of the former sawmill, in Whittington Road, with this latest bid submitted on April 6 this year.
It is the second time the plans for this site have been withdrawn, while another set of plans were rejected by Shropshire Council in 2020.
The dwellings were to be built close to Guttercrest, a manufacturing business in Unicorn Road, that had lodged a comment against the development proposed by Monmouth-based applicant Linda Jennings.
The objection was based upon the application lacking an up-to-date noise impact assessment, which it says comes from its own factory from as early as 4am.
A notice, issued by David Parker Planning Associates on behalf of Guttercrest, said: “A revised layout is now proposed, comprising two terraced blocks of five and three dwellings, built parallel to, and facing, Whittington Road, with their rear gardens adjoining the Guttercrest site.

“But the revised plans are not supported by an up-to-date noise assessment – only the original report is provided, based on the original site layout, and produced in August 2021.
“The issues regarding noise relate to the car park and loading area to the rear of the site, and the commercial uses within the closely-adjoining building.
“We have mentioned previously that the company’s vans will be loading in this area, as early as 4am.
“We have also mentioned that the factory is not yet fully operational.
“Although the indicative house plans now show bedrooms to the front (facing Whittington Road, away from the factory/loading bay noise source), these bedrooms will still be exposed to noise from the road itself, particularly in the summer months when bedroom windows may be left open.”
The report added that Guttercrest also objected to the plans to avoid any future ‘undermining’ of the business in future.

Shropshire Council planning officer Tabitha Lythe wrote to Ms Jennings to confirm the withdrawal.
She said: “We acknowledge your communication advising that the above application is being withdrawn.
“No determination will now be made in respect of this application.”
The previous application for the site was withdrawn in autumn 2022.
