A FOUR-year-old from Oswestry has conquered the highest mountain in England in just a few hours alongside his parents.
Marley Hughes, joined his parents Katie and Alex, in their adventure taking on the Scafell Pike – a 978-metres-tall mountain in the Lake District – as a celebration of their first year of marriage.
Katie explained how they decided to take Marley as he is very energetic – and this showed as it took them just two hours and a half to get up to the top and then, after a half an hour lunch break, two hours to get back down.

She said: “Me and Alex wanted to have a weekend away for our anniversary”
“Then a week before we went we asked Marley if he wanted to come with us.
“He did really well, and of course like any child at one point he said he couldn't do it – but it took a lot of encouragement, singing and playing games and he got through it.”
The couple also has twin daughters who are younger than Marley, but they said they don't consider themselves a ‘hiking family’ as Alex was the only one who has climbed mountains before.
Katie added: “My husband actually climbed Snowdon a couple of weeks ago and he said that Scafell Pike was a much harder hike than he thought, so taking that into consideration I think Marley did fantastic.
“It was the first time I climbed a mountain, but we are always outdoors and the kids don’t like being inside.
“We spend our lives walking and outside so hiking more regularly might be in our futures.”

Katie added: “We might think this was crazy looking back but he enjoyed it."
The next adventure for the trio is to try and take on Snowdon.
“That is our next plan after we give him some time to rest,” Katie said, “But I am afraid that now knowing how hard it was he might not want to do it – but we will have to wait and see.”
The couple is also considering bringing their two-year-old twin girls on the trip.
“They have no direction at the moment but maybe in the future they’ll join us as well.”
