A SINGER who wowed the nation last week during King Charles III’s coronation is set to star at the Whittington Music Festival later this week, with tickets still available.
Last weekend the world was watching as Roderick Williams OBE took centre stage at the coronation singing a powerful and passionate solo, which was written by Oswestry-born Henry Walford Davies.
This weekend, he will be at the Whittington Music Festival, which runs from Wednesday, May 17 to Sunday, May 21 and the audience can be assured of a spectacular performance.
A spokesman for the event quoted Classic FM’s website highlighting the brilliance of Roderick’s performance in front of the King.
It said: “Westminster Abbey coronation of King Charles III was full of musical highlights.
“But trust us, you will want to hear from operatic giants Sir Bryn Terfel and Roderick Williams again.
“British baritone Roderick Williams OBE sang Walford-Davies: ‘Confortare’, in a spectacular arrangement by John Rutter.
“He had a power and beauty of tone, which will not be forgotten.

“Be strong...and keep thy commandments,” the text says. With a voice like this, we know the King was listening and taking note.
“Williams is one of the music world’s most beloved figures, with a velvet voice, and pure musicality.
“He’s also a composer, and was commissioned by His Majesty to contribute to the day’s music, writing his part in Be Thou my Vision – Triptych for Orchestra.”
The spokesman for the festival said music lovers can hear Roderick tell the story of the Fair Maid of the Mill in Schubert’s song cycle on Saturday, May 20 at 7.30pm.
The Sunday concert is sold out but tickets are available for other concerts on the door or at https://thelittleboxoffice.com/whittingtonmusicfestival/
