A CORONATION fun day was a complete success raising £1,500 after a community near Oswestry came together to celebrate the event.
Trefonen residents came together on Monday, May 8, to commemorate King Charles’ coronation at The Barley Mow pub.
The idea came after the organiser Mel Oakley wanted to plant a Christmas tree for the village to mark the event.

Mel said: “The community really came together – although the weather wasn’t nice we had a team come out in the morning with gazebos, and it was just amazing.
“It was so brilliant, and everyone enjoyed it, especially the children.”
Heather Hughes from The Barley Mow pub served hot baps, alongside other vendors such as Scoopalicious and other local businesses.
Mel added: “We planted the ceremonial tree, and it was all really good.
“Seeing the older generation and the younger one coming together was really heart-warming.
“We had really positive feedback on how much everyone enjoyed it.”
The organiser explained that people didn’t have to spend a fortune on the activities, as the children games were free.
“That’s all we wanted,” she said. “We didn’t want them to worry just to tag along and enjoy it.”
The event included free face painting, balloons, and games for children, with a caricature artist, a bran tub lucky dip, tombola, hook a duck and a raffle.

All the proceeds from the coronation fun day will go to Trefonen School and Preschool.
