A COMMEMORATIVE plaque marking the coronation of King Charles III has been unveiled in Oswestry.
Mayor of Oswestry, Councillor Jay Moore, was joined by the Deputy Lieutenant of Shropshire, Veronica Lillis, to unveil the plaque at Oswestry's Guildhall at 12pm on Sunday, May 7.
Thousands of similar plaques were unveiled across Shropshire.
The Oswestry plaque was donated by The British Ironworks, based on the outskirts of the town.
Cllr Moore explained that the initiative was developed by the Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner, who wanted to ensure that all parts of the county of Shropshire commemorate the historic event by having a Coronation Plaque displayed in each town.
The Coronation Plaque has been produced by the British Ironworks Centre on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant and has been provided to Oswestry free of charge.
Following the unveiling, the mayor and deputy lieutenant planted an oak tree in Cae Glas Park as part of the coronation celebrations along with the mayoress, Poppy King and the mayor and mayoress' son, Alfie, affectionately known as the Mini Mayor.
Cllr Moore added: "It's been an honour to preside over his Majesty's coronation events in Oswestry.
"Thank you all for such a wonderful year as your mayor."
It follows a busy day on Saturday as Cae Glas Park hosted a special coronation event including a big screen for people to watch the events in London live, followed by music and much more, taking the celebrations into the evening.
The event also featured stalls, children's rides, alpacas and greyhounds.
