PUPILS at a primary school near Oswestry have been busy preparing for the King’s Coronation this weekend.
The children of West Felton CofE Primary have already taken part in a coronation competition in which they wrote letters to the King and designed new £5 notes for King Charles, ahead of the celebrations.
Headteacher Helen Hughes explained that this is not the first time the students have taken part in Royal celebrations.
She said: “We did a Jubilee competition with St Michael’s Church, and we decided that the coronation will be another brilliant event to celebrate with the competition.

“We got together with the church and brainstormed some ideas, and we came up with the designing of the new £5 for our youngest classes, and for our older ones we thought they could write letters to King Charles about their hopes and dreams for his reign.”
Winners will be announced at the school's Coronation Service at St Michael’s Church on Friday, May 5, starting at 9am.
The winning pupils will receive a coronation rosette, a cash prize from the church, and a coronation book.
“We done a lot of work this year on farming, we’ve looked at palm oil and climate change – so the children had a lot of things that they could have written about," Helen continued.
The pupils’ work will be displayed in the church until the Sunday, and after the letters and the art will be sent to King Charles.
Helen continued: “We had a book of condolences when the Queen passed away and we sent it to Buckingham Palace.
“And we received a letter back from King Charles – the children were absolutely thrilled with it.
“So now if we receive another reply, I think they will be even more excited.”

The school will also be performing a beautiful song, written especially for the occasion ‘Sing for the King’ at Friday's celebrations.
“They tried to learn the National Anthem but that has proven to be quite a difficult song for them – the one they have prepared is still really beautiful,” Helen added.
