A GROUP of Oswestry-based artists will have their abstract landscapes showcased at a gallery in Shrewsbury for a month starting in May.

The Borderland Visual Arts (BVA) network will hold a group show at the Gateway Gallery on Chester Street from May 5.

Emma Sherry, Gateway Gallery chairman, said: "We are very excited to host such a high-quality body of works from the BVA Artists.

“The theme is ‘Abstract Landscapes’ which will be a mix of paintings, ceramics, and sculptures.

“The final artwork has been through a thorough selection process by the gallery panel who oversee and curate our exhibitions." 

Borderland Visual Arts is a network of artists from Oswestry and the surrounding borderlands which holds regular exhibitions and open studio events throughout the year.

This year, BVA artists are opening their studios for an Arts Trail in and around Oswestry over two weekends in June.

Alison Holt, one of the exhibiting artists added: “The BVA are really excited to be showcasing our work in such a beautiful, purpose-built, exhibition space in the heart of Shrewsbury.

“We are very lucky to have such a varied network of artists all producing artwork of a very high standard”

The Gateway Gallery has a superb reputation for showcasing contemporary works and is a fantastic space for artists to promote their art in a central location.

The gallery is located within the Gateway Centre which is completely accessible and hosts a very good café serving hot and cold food and drinks daily, overlooking the River Servern.

Emma continued: “The Gateway Gallery is a fantastic space for artists to exhibit their work.

“It is a purpose-built gallery with the aim of supporting local artists.

The gallery is open weekdays, 9am-4pm and for those interested  there will be a private viewing on Thursday May 4, where they will get the opportunity to meet the artists.
