OSWESTRY’S mayor has praised the work of volunteers after completing a walk for mental health with the mayoress.
Councillor Jay Moore and mayoress Poppy King have been in competition to see who can raise the most money by completing a circuit of the Oswald’s Trail in the town along with groups of friends, and other participants.
Having completed the challenge a week earlier than her partner, Ms King said it had been a wonderful experience with some fantastic views along the way.
She continued: “Apart from one electric fence which caused us to divert, there were no problems in route-finding along the way with everything well waymarked.”
With his epic walk being one of his final acts in the office of mayor, Cllr Moore, chose the Ramblers, who created the trail in 2013 as part of its 40th birthday celebrations, and the P3 group who are maintaining and improving footpaths in the area for special mention.
He said: “We completed the trail with no issues whatsoever.
“I want to send a thank you out to the Oswestry Ramblers, as they are doing a great job making sure that the route stays maintained.
“We were accompanied by amazing people on this walk so a thank you to them for their participation.”

The councillor added that he had been involved in charity organisations before he became mayor but the number of people doing good work had still surprised him.
He said: “I have realised since becoming mayor is there are a vast number or organisations active in Oswestry trying to give something back to the town.
“The trail links so many of our landmarks together it is a real asset to the town.”
Chris Bryan Smith, of Borderland Rotary Club, also participated in the walk for a shorter portion of the trail.
“I have to admit that I didn’t do the whole walk but I hope that I made up for it by bringing a donation from Borderland Rotary” Chris added.
“And I really admire the work that Jay is doing with his mental health project and, of course, all those that walked the whole trail”.

Cllr Moore also extended his special thanks to the Coach House Fitness in Oswestry, for making banners and supporting them, and also to all the local businesses and people that donated to the cause.
His mayoral charity and the Oswestry's Men Walking and Talking, will split the proceeds from the walk, to reach both under-18s and adults.
