A COMMUNITY is pulling out all the stops to mark the King's Coronation later this summer.
What started as a plan to plant a commemorative tree has snowballed into a full-blown fun day after Trefonen residents came together.
Mel Oakley explained that she wanted to plant a Christmas tree for the village to commemorate the coronation in May.
But after joining forces with Heather Hughes from The Barley Mow pub, a fun day with plenty of activities will now take place.
Mel explained: “We raised funds from the village and people were very kind to help us secure the tree and plant it.
“Then I thought is anyone doing anything for the coronation? So I put the idea on the local Facebook page and Heather said she was hoping to do something.
“We then joined forces and decided to do something together for our community.”

The event is set to take place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 8, from 1pm until 5pm.
It will feature live music, a children’s disco, a bring-your-own picnic, free tea, coffee and games.
Heather will also be serving hot baps, alongside other vendors such as Scoopalicious and other local businesses.
There will be free face painting, balloons, and games for children, with a caricature artist, a bran tub lucky dip, tombola, hook a duck and a raffle.
Mel added: “We just want to bring a fun day to our village.
“An old-fashioned family fun, and we hope that the weather will be in our favour.”

If the weather permits, a dog competition will start at 1.30pm, and will be followed by all the other fun competitions.
The coronation tree naming and planting will take place at 3pm on the day.
“Local businesses have been extremely generous,” Mel said. “All our proceeds will go to Trefonen School and Preschool.”
She continued: “It’s an all-ages community day, bringing the old and the young together for a nice, and hopefully sunny day.”
