THE arrival of a well-known coffee shop giant’s drive-thru could move a step closer if an application to Shropshire Council proves successful.
Costa Coffee has planning permission to place a new shop and drive-thru on Oswestry's developing Smithfield site in Shrewsbury Road, close to Morrisons.
An application was this week put into Shropshire Council to discharge a number of conditions to enable the construction of the shop to begin.
Applicants WM Morrison Supermarkets Limited is hoping planning officers at Shropshire Council can remove two conditions from the planning: surface and foul water drainage strategy and a site investigation report) to build the single-storey building.

Whittam Cox Architects, from Derbyshire, are acting as agents for Morrisons, and have submitted reports with their latest application for conditions to be discharged.
A report into gas levels at the site showed that results were low meaning there would be a negligible impact on the development, and was carried out as per condition four regarding contaminated land.
A decision into the dropping of conditions is expected no later than Tuesday, May 16.
Costa Coffee has not yet confirmed a date on when they expect to start building on the development, which will be alongside a McDonald’s Restaurant, the already-open Morrisons supermarket, a gym, and a car showroom, among others.
