THE founder of a Chirk social enterprise has spoken of his ‘honour’ at being invited to meet Prime Minister Rishi Sunak this week.

Brian Colley, a founder of the Glyn Wylfa social enterprise in Chirk, attended a reception to celebrate Community Champions across the UK on Wednesday, March 22 as Simon Baynes MP’s nomination from Clwyd South.

The event aimed to recognise the contribution of Community Champions who make communities a better place to live and work.

MPs from across the UK invited representatives from charities, businesses, veterans, or volunteers who have made a real difference in their communities.

Mr Colley said: “It was an honour and privilege to be invited to the reception at Downing Street, which celebrated the contribution made by Community Social Enterprises and their Champions.

“Glyn Wylfa, as an award-winning Social Enterprise, celebrates its 10th year of trading in March and I am proud of its achievements ‘for the benefit of the community’.

“I am passionate about the benefits of Social Enterprise for all communities.”

The pair met the PM at the event, who was full of praise for the work of Brian and colleagues in founding the Glyn Wylfa social enterprise in Chirk, which has transformed a redundant building into a social and tourist hub.

The enterprise includes Caffi Wylfa, which has a seating capacity of 120, office accommodation for 11 local businesses and the local police station.

It has generated almost 50 jobs locally and has become a very important local tourist destination.

Mr Baynes was full of praise for his Community Champions, stating the work of Glyn Wylfa is vital to support people in Chirk, and admitted he was proud to take him to the reception.
