What is often overlooked when we consider how care is provided to vulnerable people, is the role that many children play in this process.
There are many youngsters in the Oswestry area providing essential care to older family members.
Within Shropshire there is a group that supports these young people, reminding them that the care that they provide is both welcomed and recognised.
Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club’s President Roger Whitting presented a cheque for £250 to Simon Jones, a representative from the local Young Carer support group.
Roger, who himself relies upon substantial care, said: “I have enormous respect for those involved in providing care to those in need. For many people life without this care would be intolerable or even impossible.
“The support provided by young people can easily go unnoticed and they can sometimes feel isolated.
“We are pleased to be able to make a modest financial contribution that will enable the Young Carer support group to provide a programme of social events that will be enjoyable and remind these young people that they are not alone and that the work they do is appreciated and applauded.”
