ONE of Oswestry’s most iconic businesses – Sebastians Restaurant with Rooms – has been advertised for sale on a leading website.

The hotel business, owned by Mark Sebastian and partner Michelle Fisher, is based in a 17th-century building in Willow Street, and the pair announced last year that the hugely-popular restaurant business would close on December 31.

However, in an exclusive interview with The Advertizer prior to closing the restaurant after more than three decades, the pair said they intended to carry on with the hotel business as well as opening the restaurant for special occasions.

But the building, plus the business and restaurant space, is now up for sale on UK-renowned Right Move through London-based agent Colliers for just under £700,000.

According to the listing, key features of the sale includes ‘eight individual and characterful en-suite letting bedrooms’ and ‘cosy dining space for around 36 with separate seating lounge’.

The agents have also said the business had a £320,00-plus turnover in March 2020 and that there is also a ‘stunning and spacious four-bed owners’ apartment’.

The listing added: “Sebastians is an award-winning 17th-century town centre restaurant with rooms located in the delightful market town of Oswestry, on the Welsh/Shropshire border.

“There are eight individually furnished en-suite bedrooms, each with its own delightful character, in keeping with the period of this historic building.

“The main restaurant is cosy and well-proportioned, with seating for around 36 and a separate lounge with seating for 14 set around a wood burner stove.

“The owners also have the benefit of a fantastic apartment with four bedrooms, a stunning lounge with beamed ceilings and walls, separate dining room and kitchen.”

The pair told The Advertizer in December that the restaurant closure was a ‘semi-retirement’ with plans to maintain the rooms, and give themselves some breathing space.

“A lot of people who know us are probably surprised that we’ve been going so long,” said Michelle.

“Some people are gutted and have been telling us that they wanted to be part of the final few weeks.”

Mark added: “People are very much disappointed but understand that we’ve been doing it for 33 years and now it’s our time.”

The pair added they intended to take more holidays to a home they own in the south of France but were looking forward to remaining in place.
