PLANS for two self-service car washes on a busy A5 service station have been given the green light.

Shropshire Council has approved the proposal by the Motor Fuel Group Ltd to develop the car washes at the Nesscliffe Services last week.

Shropshire Council case officer, Jane Raymond said in her report that the location was appropriate.

She said: "The existing service area that this proposal relates to is only accessible off the southbound carriage way of the Nesscliffe bypass.

"The proposal would offer an additional facility only available to vehicles and customers already travelling on the bypass and is not considered to compete with service provision in nearby towns or villages such as Oswestry or Nesscliffe.

"The proposal would serve a specific purpose and meet an identified need in an appropriate location within an existing roadside service area."

The application was supported by a member of the public, as well as Great Ness and Little Ness Parish Council.

The plans also received no objections from either Shropshire Council Highways or National Highways.

A National Highways spokesperson added: "Having reviewed the scope and scale of the application, National Highways has no objection to this planning application consultation."
