A MAN FROM Ruyton XI Town has gone viral after he captured the Northen Lights in North Wales, and had his picture reposted by the Met Office.
Jon Ellis was in North Wales for the weekend, when he received a notification on his phone of a red alert for the Aurora.
As soon as he got the notification from Aurora Watch UK, he checked his Weather&Radar app to see if the skies were clear enough to see it - and ended up capturing this magnificent picture of the phenomenon.
The northern lights were visible in the UK on Sunday and Monday evenings.
Jon said: "The Aurora app said that the lights can be seen anywhere in the UK, so I checked other apps to see if anyone else has seen it.
"Then I went upstairs, propped my elbows on the window ledge and took a couple of pictures."
At first Jon didn't know if the images he took were up to scratch, as with the naked eye the lights were difficult to see.

"The green was barely visible in real life, and the colours were no where near as vibrant" he said.
"Then I looked at the pictures and I was surprised to see them."
"What you see on camera is so much better than what you can see with the naked eye."

Although Jon is not an avid social media user, he shared the best of his pictures on Twitter - and received a huge response.
"I don't use social media, and on my account I got about 7,000 views, for the post," he continued. "Then the next day I saw the Met Office Twitter account reposted it and got over 500,000 views.
"It was incredible that so many people saw it and reposted it from all over the world."
Jon has seen the light before in Iceland but he that he doesn't know when he will see them again in the UK, with this week's display being the clearest in years.
