OSWESTRY has been selected as a finalist for this year's Britain in Bloom competition, following last year's success in the regional competition.
The judges of the Heart of England in Bloom 2022 named Oswestry the overall winner of the large town category as well as receiving the Gold, and they thought that the town is worthy to be put forward to the UK finals.
Natalie Bainbridge, the chair of Oswestry in Bloom, said that this is a fantastic opportunity to put the town on the map.
She said: "It is a great opportunity for Oswestry to be recognised, and also for other community groups and schools to take part in this.
"By putting us on the map like this, it would mean that we might attract more investors in town; and it's not just about gardening, it's also about education, community and sustainability.
"But just having the recognition of being part of a nation-wide competition will be good for the Oswestry."
Graham Mitchell, from Oswestry in Bloom, said the committee and volunteers have worked hard to make Oswestry look ‘blooming lovely’ for the Britain in Bloom judges visit in August - and said he still welcomed the help of others.
He said: "They are always looking for volunteers to help in whatever way they can and however small.
"Gardening and 'growing together' has its benefits.
"As part of a group, it is much more fun, sociable, plus has benefits of being outdoors, along with the appreciation of the local community and wildlife."

As part of its activities, Oswestry in Bloom runs a local competition every year when residents are invited to enter their gardens into numerous categories.
These are then judged by Margaret Thrower, the daughter of Percy Thrower.
There is then an awards ceremony to present certificates and trophies to category winners.
