A MAN has died following a crash in the early hours of Monday (January 23) morning near Nesscliffe.
Emergency services were called to the scene between the Nesscliffe Bypass and the Felton Butler Island at Shrewsbury just after 3am after a lorry and a car collided.
West Mercia Police has confirmed a 21-year-old man has been arrest on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and remains in custody.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed a 24-year-old man from Shrewsbury died at the scene.
They said: "Ambulance staff found the driver of the car in a critical condition. Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased.
"The driver of the lorry was assessed and was uninjured. He received self care advice before being discharged at the scene.”

One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the incident, along with three fire crews from Baschurch, Shrewsbury and Wellington, along with an operations officer following reports of people being trapped.
West Mercia Police has confirmed the road remains closed is expected to continue to remain that way until this afternoon while investigations continue.
A spokesperson said: "We attended with West Midlands Ambulance Service and sadly the driver of the car, a 24-year old man from Shrewsbury, died.
"A 21 year old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of death by dangerous driving, he remains in custody.
"The road is closed and is expected to remain so until this afternoon."
