AN OSWESTRY couple will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary early next year much to the delight of family.
Mervyn and Christine Hughes married in Oswestry and their family will be celebrating on Thursday, January 5 next year.
The couple live in Whittington for over 50 years and son-in-law David Ryder told how they have been involved in the local arts scene.
He added: "On Thursday, January 5 2023 Mervyn and Christine Hughes celebrate the 60th anniversary of their wedding held in St Oswald's Parish Church in Oswestry.
"They were each born and bred in Oswestry and still live in Whittington to where they moved in 1971, the year Christine qualified as a teacher.
"She retired as deputy head of Lakelands School in Ellesmere in 2005.
"Mervyn was a field service engineer for North West Water/United Utilities for nearly 30 years.
"They have each contributed a lot locally, especially to the arts, and in particular to the Attfield Theatre and the Whittington Music Festival.
"Their son David Hughes and daughter April Ryder will join them for a family meal in celebration.
"They have been the most perfect in-laws for me, it is a real celebration."
