AN OSWESTRY-based collaborative gift shop which was set to close has received a Christmas miracle and will now stay open in the New Year.

Sarah Wright and Josh Rogers, owners of Under One Roof in Beatrice Street, announced earlier this month plans to close the store on Christmas Eve to move back to Yorkshire to be closer to their family.

But Thomas James Shotton, also known as TJ, co-owner of The Courtyard Tearooms, in Griffin Courtyard, Leg Street, has swooped in and saved the day, just in time for a Christmas miracle.

Sarah explained that TJ already has items from his other business, Sits and Giggles, which sells chocolate, in Under One Roof, so he came up with the proposal.

She said: "It works out in our favour.

"We have another business that we have advertised in the shop, so because of that and because we own the building, we offered him a lowered rent that we would have not offered anyone else."

Sarah further added that TJ is planning on incorporating different elements within the shop, focusing even more on locally produced art, produce to support local artists.

"Some people might leave," continued Sarah.

"The structure of the shop may change slightly, but it will remain a central hub for all things creative, and your favourite independent gift store, of course."

Sarah added they are looking for more people to join and enjoy the space together.

TJ will be taking over the shop from January, with the continuous aim to support small artists and businesses throughout.

Sarah is urging people to keep an eye out on social media for more updates, as TJ will update them with the new opening times and the incoming changes to the store.

She said: "Further updates to come soon but, in the meantime, continue to show the shop all your love and support throughout the festive season and beyond too."
