THERE were tears of joy and despair in Llanymynech as the village came together to watch Wales and England play each other in the World Cup.
The village, which straddles the Shropshire/Powys border saw fans of both teams gather in the Cross Keys and the Dolphin Inn for the 'Battle of Britain' clash - with the Three Lions winning 3-0.
Marcus Rashford scored two goals and Phil Foden grabbed the other sending England through to the second round to face Senegal and Wales were eliminated from the tournament.
Fans of both countries mingled to watch the match in a village which is divided in two by the Angle-Welsh border. The Dolphin pub lies in Wales, but just yards away is the Cross Keys, which is in England.
Passionate Wales fans were pleased to see the Welsh team compete in the World Cup for the first time in 64 years but disappointed with the performances in the tournament.
Wales fan Joe Evans said: "They haven't turned up for the whole World Cup in my opinion.
"It was only the second half of the game against the US that we showed how good of a team we are, but tonight we backed off and it was not good enough."
The Welsh team looked for inspiration from superstar Gareth Bale and midfielder, Aaron Ramsey and Matt Hudson said the team were overreliant on them.
He explained: "I think they have been fantastic but we relied upon them a bit too much during this World Cup.
"A lot of the guys like Bale, Ramsey and Joe Allen haven't played enough games before the World Cup."
Joe added: "We have got a good core of young lads coming through but the question is are they good enough to take us to another Euros or World Cup.
"That's the next big thing for us."
The Three Lions fans celebrated the result and are looking forward to seeing England compete in the second round.
England fan, Josh Haywood said: "To be honest, I would have liked Wales to come through with us.
"I think we can go all the way.
"I think Rashford and Foden have been absolutely fantastic and I have been crying for them to start the whole time.
"Wales had to win and attack us and I think we did the job."
Other England fans spoke about the upcoming pressure their team will face in the knockout rounds.
George Jones said: "Knockouts are when the real pressure starts and you just want to get to the next game."
Callum White added: "It was an appropriate attacking change to play against a weaker side but Senegal will be different and I will be intrigued to see the starting lineup."
England will play Senegal on Sunday, December 4.
