THE funeral of the much-loved Rebecca Steer, killed in Oswestry in October, has taken place in Llanymynech on Tuesday.
Huge crowds of mourners, all following Rebecca's family's request to wear bright clothing in her honour, followed the funeral cortege as it passed through the village, bringing traffic to a standstill as many paid their respects.
The 22-year-old died on a night out in Oswestry in the early hours of Sunday, October 9 after she was struck by a car, leading to an outpouring of tributes and love for the Liverpool John Moores University student.
More than £9,000 was raised to support her family, who walked behind the funeral hearse as Rebecca was taken to her final resting place at St Agatha Church, in Rectory Lane.
Many mourners donned purple, while one wore a bright waistcoat and dickey bow to honour her memory and the family's call for a party atmosphere.
According to mum Jennie Steer, it was always her daughter's wish to have a 'party' funeral.
The family, in a tribute released shortly after her death, said: “We are all completely devastated by the loss of our beautiful girl Rebecca. She always had a smile and a laugh that made everybody love her.
“She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. She was the best daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend anyone could ask for.”

Meanwhile, Stephen McHugh, 27, who was charged with her murder, pleaded not guilty to the offence, plus a further charge of grievous bodily harm with intent, on Friday, November 11.
