AN OSWESTRY bus stop is getting a green upgrade as part of the restoration work done by High Street Heritage Action Zone.
The bus shelter outside 39 Church Street is being amended to allow a historic canopy to open for the first time in years. It was previously hindered by the large bus shelter on the pavement outside.
Now the bus stop is getting a green roof and a slimmer design as part of the HSHAZ Project and their restoration scheme, together with Shropshire Council, Oswestry Town Council, Oswestry BID and Historic England.
Samantha Jones, from Shropshire Council, said: "It is wonderful that we have been able to upgrade the bus shelter to a new slim design which means that the restoration work we are doing as part of the High Street Heritage Action Zone to 39a/b Church Street will bring a positive aspect to this part of town.
"Our thanks go to Historic England and Oswestry Town Council for funding to carry out the works."

She added:"Through this partnership we have been able to work with the Town Council to ensure that the new shelter has a green roof which will bring additional benefits not only visually through the flowers but the important benefit it will bring to insect life as well."
This shelter is also part of the overall restoration scheme occurring at 39a/b and 39-41 Church Street as part of the HSHAZ Project.
Mrs Jones commented: "It was important to us and the town council that the replacement have a green roof.
"This not only brings aesthetic benefits from increasing greenery in the town but importantly a vital food source for bees and other insects.
"We hope this model will adopted throughout the centre when bus shelters require replacement."
