THE author of one of the biggest hits in children's literature – Diary of a Wimpy Kid –is coming to Oswestry this month to celebrate his new book in the global hit series.
Jeff Kinney, the number-one international bestselling writer and illustrator of the Wimpy Kid series, is coming to Oswestry School for an event with Booka Bookshop on Saturday, November 19, at 1.30pm.
The author is celebrating the release of the 17th book in the series: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Diper Överlöde, with a UK and Ireland tour.
A spokesman for Booka said the trip to Oswestry is a major success for the town, cinsidering it will be part of a wider European tour for the author.
They said: "Jeff is visiting Dublin, Tring, Edinburgh and Oswestry for events with Eason, Our Bookshop, Waterstones, Booka Bookshop and Linghams Booksellers, and is the largest UK and Ireland Wimpy Kid tour to date.
"This will be the first opportunity in two years to see the larger-than-life Wimpy Kid theatre show for UK audiences and it will be Jeff’s first time in Ireland since 2017.
"This is a very exciting time for Jeff to visit, with the overall Wimpy Kid brand sales having grown by 12 per cent year on year in volume through UK TCM.
"There’s also been five per cent growth in sales, year on year in volume, through Irish ICM, and backlist sales across the series are tracking at their highest since 2014.
"This December the second book in Jeff’s top-selling series is coming to Disney Plus in the all-new animated adventure, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.
"Jeff will MC the show, which will feature live performances from the band Löded Diper, as well as opportunities for concert-goers to show off their singing, dancing and musical talents onstage.
"Each event will include pre-show entertainment including photo moments with rock’n’roll dress-up.
"Attendees will be encouraged to come dressed like a rockstar and join Jeff for a hugely entertaining family event as part of the exclusive Löded Diper UK tour."
Tickets for the event cost £20 and £17 for children, which both include a signed book, and it is expected to last for one hour.
