THE number of cheaters having illicit affairs in Oswestry is allegedly on the rise after a new cheating map was revealed by an adultery website.
According to website Illicit Encounters, 641 people in Oswestry had an affair, a four per cent rise on last year's figure of 618.
The cheating map is based on data from one million postcodes, and the interactive 'Infidelity Index' allows users to discover how many people are having affairs in any locality.
Jessica Leoni, spokeswoman from the adultery website, said: "We have seen rises in adultery across most of towns in north Shropshire.
"We have found that affairs are more popular in rural areas and some of the smaller towns."
According to Illicit Encounters, the rise is due to the cost-of-living crisis making it too expensive for unhappy couples to divorce so they are cheating instead.
There has also been a surge in affairs activity with life returning to normal after two years blighted by Covid restrictions.
According to the site, the Ellesmere affair count has also risen at 143, up from 131 last year.
Jessica added: "We expect the figures to pick up in all areas of north Shropshire over the next two months.
"The run-up to Christmas is always a boom time for affairs because most people are back in the office and looking for some fun."
The figures are based on Illicit Encounters’ own data on the numbers of Britons cheating.
