ONE OF the most famous names in Chirk, the Hand Hotel, is up for sale at an asking price of £850,000.
The pub and hotel, which has 17th century origins as a former coaching inn, is listed through the Fleurets Estate Agency, and comes with 14 bedrooms and two function rooms, plus two bars and a restaurant.
It also has a gym and spa, but both are out of use at the Church Street-based facility.
A spokesman for Fleurets says while the hotel is popular in its current form, there is 'scope for growth' and said it also has other ways of generating income for the new owners.
They said: "A former coaching inn dating from 1610, the property has retained much of its original character and charm having been tastefully refurbished throughout.
"The building provides a 14 bedroom hotel with a number of amenities including a reception/ lounge area, two bars, a restaurant, café, the Regency function room and a second large function suite.
"In addition there is an area formerly used as a gym which could be redeveloped for a number of uses.
"The bedrooms are arranged over two floors and with reconfiguration this could easily be increased to circa 20 rooms offering scope for growth.
"Internally and externally the property retains many of its period features.
"There is an additional flat currently occupied by staff and retail unit which is currently rented out and generating £4,500 pa.
"The extent of the accommodation is unusual and offers scope for diversification and growth dependent on requirements, plus the hotel is licensed to hold weddings in both functions rooms.
"The property has a total site area of circa 0.94 acres. There is a small parking area to the front along with a larger car park to the side providing circa 20 spaces in total.
"The large beer garden to the side is a great outside space mainly grassed and has a raised covered decked area. The garden regularly hosts live bands in the summer months."
The Hand Hotel has played a vital role in the Chirk community in recent years, with rooms used during the Covid-19 lockdown to accommodate NHS staff who were unable to live at home.
