The cancellation of Oswestry's annual bonfire and firework display led to an angry reaction online.
Organisers Oswestry Town Council and Borderland Rotary Club made the announcement due to 'safety concerns' on Tuesday afternoon.
The council turned off comments under their Facebook post notifying people of the call off.
And the people of Oswestry and surrounding areas have taken to the Advertizer's Facebook page to complain about the decision.
Diane Morris said: "Safety group concerns, really. I don’t like fireworks and haven’t been for years but why stop other peoples fun. More about money and noise complaints."
Tim Hobkirk added: "Typical Oswestry. The town is completely dying. Why do we bother with anything here."
Amy Williams is still hopeful that it will be rehomed: "Noooooooooo! It’s my favourite event of the year I can see the problems with the entrance / exit however.I really hope they find somewhere to host this very soon because it would be a shame to lose it completely."

The display was meant to take place on Guy Fawkes night, Saturday, November 5.
According to the organisers, several concerns were raised by the Shropshire Safety Advisory Group about the suitability to safely host the event at the park.
