VOLUNTEERS to help plant 2,000 trees in Oswestry next month are sought by the town council.
The work, on land close to Gatacre Pavillion, will see the trees planted as part of Oswestry Town Council's commitment to taking part in the Green Canopy, part of Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Following the sad passing of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, his Majesty The King Charles III became the Patron and in accordance with his wishes, the initiative has been extended to the end of March 2023 in line with the full tree planting season.
This will give people the opportunity to plant trees in memoriam to honour Her Majesty.
A spokesman for Oswestry Town Council said it is looking forward to taking part in the Green Canopy, but needed help from Monday, November 7 to Friday, November 11.
They said: "Oswestry Town Council is proud to be supporting this initiative and has committed to purchasing 2,000 trees to form a new hedge at Gatacre Pavillion and is looking to the community and partners to help plant them.
"Weather permitting, the Council is looking for volunteers to help plant trees from November 7-11between 10am and 4pm.
"All volunteers are to meet at Gatacre Pavillion at 10am with their own spade, gloves, appropriate footwear and clothing – full training will be given.
"The Queen’s Green Canopy is proud to be creating a living legacy with over a million trees planted in Her Majesty’s name across the nation during the first planting season, October 2021 to March 2022.
"The extension of the initiative will build on this legacy and serve as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary service to her country and her people."
The interactive map created by The Queen’s Green Canopy to showcase the planting projects across the United Kingdom will also continue to the end of March 2023, giving people an opportunity to be part of this special legacy.
