AN OSWESTRY man was jailed for seven days and given a further four-month suspended sentence for a string of offences earlier this month.
Wynn Massey, 26 and of Nut Tree Farm, in Llynclys, was sentenced by Telford Magistrates Court in October after he pleaded guilty to assaulting two people and carrying a bladed article in public.
He changed his plea to guilty for two charges of assault, against sister Jodie Massey and her partner Chris Harris, plus possession of a bladed article in public, in an incident in February last year in Gobowen.
Massey had previously pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing a ATN X-sight 4K 3-14 from Wynnstay Group and causing criminal damage to a value under £5,000.
For the assaults against Ms Massey and Mr Harris, plus the criminal damage charge, Massey was jailed for seven days while he was given a four-month sentence – suspended for 12 months – for carrying a bladed article.
Massey, whose sentencing was delayed as magistrates called for a pre-sentence report, was also ordered to pay £750 in compensation to the Wynnstay Group for the theft of the rifle scope.
At his trial in September, the court heard that on October 18, 2020, and while staff were distracted because it was busy, walked out without paying, but was caught by owners after he reportedly boasted on social media of the theft.
The owners got in touch gave him a deadline to pay the money back, but Massey told the court he was unable to do so.
Then on February 20, 2021, Massey was involved in an altercation at Hammonds Place, in Gobowen, with his sister and Mr Harris, after he had gone to their house after drinking.
The court heard that he had shown animosity to Mr Harris, during which Massey's sister saw he had a bladed article, measuring three inches, which was connected to a knuckle duster, which she urged him to hand over.
He pushed her, and swung a vodka bottle at Mr Harris, then left the scene when police arrived and eventually came back before he was arrested.
Massey's sentence also included two charges of driving while exceeded the limit for drugs in Whitchurch in February this year, with Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol, a principal compound of cannabis, and also Benzoylecgonine, found in cocaine.
