AN author from Ellesmere is raising funds for charity through the sale of her book.

Ruthie Lockyer has written three books and had a film made based on her terrifying tale when she was a passenger on RMS Hildebrand III which ran aground off the coast of Portugal in September 1957.

And she's now putting her efforts into support the Alzheimer's Research UK Shropshire Fundraising Group which is selling copies of her book to raise funds for the charity.

Ruthie said: "One in three people is predicted to develop dementia and unless we invest in more research, we are forever going to be faced with no hope for the future.

"So many families know the heartbreak it brings.

"Alzheimer’s Research UK is the leading charity for dementia research and I am only too pleased to be able to help fund this vital research," she added.

As well as being a published author, Ruthie is a clinical psychologist, pilot, Egyptologist, golfer and accomplished painter.

Meanwhile, a film about the disaster

The film about the disaster will be shown at Ellesmere Library on Saturday, October 15 at 11am and at the Oswestry library on Saturday, October 29 at 11am.

Admission is £3, and refreshments will be available and the book signed by the author will be available at £7, with all profits to Alzheimer’s Research UK.
