PLANS to build build a holiday park and a shortened nine-hole course at Henlle Golf Club, near Gobowen will go to the Secretary of State on appeal.

Campaigners against the plans say they have received notice of the intention from the Coppergreen Developments Ltd to force through plans for 90 holiday lodges associated roads, drainage and associated works.

Plans submitted in both 2020 and 2021 were rejected by Shropshire Council but as of Monday, an appeal has been launched and will be put in front of Simon Clarke, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

A Shropshire Council notice said: "An appeal has been made to the Secretary of State against the decision of Shropshire Council to refuse to grant planning permission for the above proposal.

"The appeal will be determined on the basis of written representations.

"The procedure to be followed is set out of part two of the Town and Country Planning (appeals, written representation, England) Regulations 2009.

"We have forwarded all the representations made to us on the application to the Planning Inspectorate and the appellant.

"These will be considered by the Inspector when determining the appeal."

OTHER NEWS:

However, the notice of appeal has been met with frustration by some residents living near the golf course and have opposed the plans for the last two years.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said that it should be noted that previous rejections of the plans were by separate parts of Shropshire Council.

And they re-iterated that the application, if successful, would have a detrimental effect on traffic.

They said: "It's been rejected twice, by highways and Historic England, so parts of Shropshire Council have rejected these proposals.

"The junction (the plans are near) would be lethal and we want people to know that it's going to the government.

"We're hoping they listen to the local people who are opposing this.

"The company behind this, Coppergreen Developments Ltd, do not have the interests of local people at heart, no matter what they say."

Anyone wishing to make, modify or withdraw their comments can do so online at https://acp.planninginspectorate.gov.uk or write to The Planning Inspectorate, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Bristol, BS1 6PN.
