OSWESTRY born twins have celebrated their 90 birthday together with a surprise family party – and they will now be amongst the oldest twins in Shropshire.
Joan Jones and Leslie Davies, originally from Park Avenue, Oswestry, were the children of clock and watch repairer Stanley Davies and his wife Elsie.
Joan was a sub-postmistress at Weston Rhyn post office for some years, she then lived in The Forge, Chirk, with her late husband Elmo, for more than 50 years, and now she is a resident at Chirk Court.
Leslie began his career in journalism in Oswestry, at his local paper the Advertizer, before moving to the South Wales Argus and later the Western Mail.
He furthered his career and became a business editor with Alcan Aluminium Ltd, where he was responsible for employee newspapers on four locations.
Leslie retired as managing editor, and now lives in Ponthir, Gwent.
At the family party, at the Lion Quays resort, was Leslie's daughter Helen, who travelled 456 miles from her home in Essex to celebrate her father and aunt's birthday.
