Boredom in hospital is set to become a thing of the past for youngsters staying on the wards in Gobowen.
Young patients at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital will now benefit from £8,000 worth of Xbox computer games thanks to the donation of two state-of-the-art gaming carts.
TheRockinR Gaming Charity donated two Xbox Series S carts with games and controllers, which resemble portable gaming systems on wheels.
Delivered to Alice Ward, one has been funded by the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the other by the hospital’s own League of Friends and RJAH Charity.
Polly Brown, Health Play Specialist on Alice Ward, said: "The patients on Alice Ward will benefit greatly from having these state-of-the-art interactive gaming carts.
"The carts have the latest gaming technology, which will be a welcome distraction for the young patients. We are very grateful here on Alice Ward and we would like to thank TheRockinR, Starlight and the League of Friends for their donations."
The dedicated children’s ward at the Oswestry-based hospital, were delivered by Jess and Jonny Miree from TheRockinR.
Victoria Sugden, charity director of the League of Friends, added: "We are thrilled to be supporting this project both through the RJAH Charity Alice Ward Fund and the League of Friends.
"We hope the gaming carts will provide lots of fun."
TheRockinR Charity was set up in the memory of Reece Miree, who died in March 2018 aged 11, after contracting DIPG brain cancer.
His legacy is carried on through his gaming tag "TheRockinR" and through his love of gaming, the charity being started by his elder sister Jess and father Johnny.
The carts are supplied in hospital to be used as coping tools for children undergoing treatment, and to promote social interaction on the hospital wards.
They were delivered to the hospital on what would have been Reece’s 16th birthday.
Jess, from TheRockinR, and Reece's sister: "The gaming carts help to reduce the impact of hospitalisation on young patients and their families.
"We have distributed almost 300 carts nationwide, offering a welcome distraction to treatments and procedures."
The brand's colour scheme was chosen based on Reece's favourite colours.
"We are delighted to come to RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital with two gaming carts. We hope the children will enjoy using them and it will make their stay in hospital a little less anxious." Jess added.
