PREPARATIONS are well underway for the launch of a major new attraction in North Wales, which was created in Oswestry.

Zip World’s “Skyflyer”, which was created by Lindstrand Technologies Ltd, was inflated in Rhyl on Wednesday, July 27.

The airship, to be located along the beachfront in the North Wales town, was due to open from Wednesday, August 3, after its launch was postponed from July 21 due to the wind and weather conditions not being ideal to perform the first full inflation.

But it has been delayed again after an “engineering and design challenge” was identified during testing.
No new date has been announced for the Skyflyer’s launch as yet.

Visitors will be elevated 400ft in the air to take in the panoramic views of the North Wales coast and beyond.

The attraction is to be accessible to all, including wheelchair users, and features other support equipment for those with disabilities.

“Skyflyer”, which has no age limit, will also be joined on-site by “Big Red”, a 270ft zip line perfect for families.

Per Lindstrand, Swedish aeronautical engineer, pilot, adventurer and entrepreneur, best known for his series of record-breaking trans-oceanic hot air balloon flights and attempts to be the first to fly a Rozière balloon around the Earth – all with British entrepreneur, Sir Richard Branson, owns Lindstrand Technologies Ltd.

He previously said: “The SkyFlyer will be the first of it’s kind in Europe that is fully certified by EASA and the CAA as a commercial aircraft and as such enjoys the same safety as flying in a Jumbo Jet.

"We are extremely excited to be working with Sean on this excellent project.”

Elsewhere, Zip World is also set to launch “Underground Golf” at its site in Llechwedd.

The attraction, the world’s first of its kind, takes 500ft below the ground to enjoy its 18-hole course, launching on Friday (July 29).
