COUNCILLORS in Oswestry have been given an update of the latest work of the town's foodbank at its most recent meeting.
Liz Jermy gave an update on the work of the Oswestry & Borders Foodbank at Oswestry Town Council's full council meeting and how they have been working during the and since the pandemic, and how bespoke packages are put together to service users.
A spokesman for Oswestry Town Council said: "Liz explained how they have to shape what they are able to receive and how they need to manage the work of others.
"She also state that one of the biggest users of the foodbank are people in ‘work poverty’ – people who are in work but still need to use a foodbank.
"Liz talked about the fundraising, such as volunteers running half marathons or fund days, and what collections days they take part in.
"She also thanked the role Aico, an Oswestry business, has played in helping them expand and confirmed that both financial and food donations are needed."
Meanwhile, in the public session, Saffron Rainey, in his role as chairman of Our Lady's and St Oswald's Catholic Primary School, asked councillors to consider reinstating a 'walking bus' in order to improve safety for pupils.
Town clerk Arren Roberts agreed to discuss it with the school.
