AN EIGHT-year-old girl from Chirk Bank has received the first ever gold award since the new badge programme for Rainsbows was implemented three years ago.
Demi started at the Rainbows in West Felton, a girl guiding voluntary organisation for girls and young women, three years ago.
Although shy at first, the programme really made a difference to her development, and she worked very hard for it with the support of her mother Charley Rose.
The Rainbow leader said: "Demi is the first to reach gold since new badge programme started three years ago and it's the first time Rainbows have been able to work towards badges.
"To finish the year with a Rainbow achieving the gold award was amazing and a huge credit to Demi and her mum for all their hard work."
The gold award was handed over by the leader and the county commissioner, and her goal is to also receive this award for the Brownies, which she starts in September.
Her mother, Charley, added: "Demi worked very hard during lock down to achieve all of the badges she could, she started Rainbows at five and was incredibly shy, and was reluctant to join in.
"With the nurturing she received at rainbows Demi has grown in confidence and even completed an adventure day and sleep over with rainbows this summer."
