A PAIR from Chirk have been fined more than £200 after dodging their rail fares.
Mathew Williams and Donna Edwards, both of St Mary's Close in Chirk, were found guilty last week of boarding a train in Chirk on March 1, this year, without a valid ticket entitling them to travel.
The charge noted that Chirk Railway Station is a non-compulsory ticket area, however it does have a ticket machine which means passengers are expected to purchase a ticket before boarding a train unless the machine is not working.
At Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Monday, July 11, 31-year-old Williams was fined £220 and was told to pay competition of £5.30 to Transport for Wales.
He must also pay £100 court costs and £34 to the victim services fund.
Meanwhile, Edwards, 37, was also fined £220 and told to pay £5.30 compensation.
She must also pay £100 court courts and a £34 victim surcharge.
