FIREFIGHTERS from across the region and beyond were called in to tackle a major fire that broke out in Baschurch on Thursday (July 14) afternoon.

The incident in Stanwardine near Baschurch involved 60 acres of straw and stubble.

It saw crews working well into the night.

The callout went in shortly before 4pm and saw crews from Oswestry, Ellesmere, Baschurch, Wem, Shrewsbury and Craven Arms in attendance including the incident support unit, light pumping unit and operations and safety officers.

Meanwhile, the drone team from neighbouring Hereford and Worcester Fire Service was also in attendance.

And other crews, including Market Drayton were called in to provide relief later into the night.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Five fire appliances including the Incident Support Unit and the Light Pumping Unit were mobilised from Baschurch, Craven Arms, Ellesmere, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Wem. Operations and Safety officers were in attendance."

They added: "Field fire involving approximately 60 acres of straw and stubble.

"The drone team from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service were also in attendance at this incident."

The stop message was sent in at 7.55pm however, crews were in attendance into the early hours of the morning and beyond.
