A YOUNG pianist has received a huge boost for his future after he received a bursary provided to students at the Marches Academy Trust in Oswestry.
The Oswestry Lions Bursary is provided annually and has been awarded to Lewys Roberts to use to help build his portfolio for university applications.
Lewys, a recent finalist at the Shropshire Young Musician of the Year, enjoys playing for the Marches Senior Choir, at public charity concerts and the Oswestry Music Festival.
He has achieved grades in playing and theory through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and he particularly enjoys playing Baroque music.
Lewys said he was delighted to be able to look forward with confidence.
He added:"Music is part of my life and has a massive influence on me, that is what’s driven me to create my own music and why I would like to further my music education at university and beyond."
He is hoping to achieve a degree in music at either the University of Liverpool or University of Cardiff.
A Lions spokesman added: "With the money from the bursary he will be purchasing hardware and software to develop his composition skills and portfolio for university."
