CLASSIC car lovers were treated to a great afternoon in Ellesmere as owners came into the town to show off their pride and joys.

The show was organised by Ellesmere Classic Car Club, and was making a return for a first event since Covid-19 as Cremorne Gardens, near the Mere, played host to the much-loved vehicles.

Oswestry Classic Cars, from Mile Oak Industrial Park in Oswestry, was the sole sponsor.

Ellesmere deputy mayor Graham Hutchinson, who is also part of Ellesmere Rotary Club, attended the day and said that he was delighted to see so many people coming into the town.

He said: "I know little about cars, coaches, trucks and tractors, but there were more than 200 vehicles on site, and they were looking magnificent.

"There were lots of interested visitors.

"The sole beneficiary of the show is to be Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire Blood Bikes, who took one of the stalls.

"There were a good number of stalls taken by local businesses and charities.

"Rotary Club provided the marshals and took a stall."

Meanwhile, Cllr Hutchinson add further thanks for Cllr Tim Hunter and Shaun Burkey from Shropshire Council for their work on the Ellesmere Regatta last week.

He said: "Thirty tons of gravel had been shovelled onto the beach at Cremorne Gardens on June 30.

"This was organised by Shropshire Council Outdoor Recreation Team, and laid by their rangers and volunteers with the help of Rotarians and other volunteers that showed up.

"The Mere was looking wonderful and is a great credit to them."
