ONE of the most eagerly-awaited events in the Oswestry calender made a triumphant return to the town this weekend as thousands attended the Food and Drink festival.
The event made a full return following the Covid-19 pandemic, with stall holders setting up along Bailey Street, Cross Street and the Bailey Head.
Oswestry mayor Councillor Jay Moore, with his family, officially opened the day at 10am on Saturday, with plenty on offer to enjoy for visitors taking advantage of the good weather.
Cllr Moore welcomed all to the town and thanked organisers for a special day.
He said: "It is really nice to see, it is an event I have been looking forward to opening.
"I come to the food festival every year
"As long back as I can remember, it is a fantastic event.
"Being able to come here and officially open it, it is an opportunity to do with the family as well.
"For me, this is a really nice one and beautiful weather for it, so I am hoping for a really positive day.
"By the time we had literally cut the ribbon, there were already people up and down the streets.
"The numbers are just going to grow and grow.
"Obviously, lunch time is when a lot of people are thinking, instead of their usual spots for lunch lets go and see what's on at the food festival today.
"I have even got family coming down from near Walsall and Birmingham to come specially for the food festival.
"So, people really do travel to come and enjoy it."
The two-day event, across Saturday and Sunday saw stalls from local businesses plus usual traders from the town's market days.
