A LLANYMYNECH-BORN woman recently celebrated her one hundredth birthday.
Doris Pickstock, born in Llanymynech, celebrated 100 years of life with her family on June 27 at The Sweeney, in Oswestry.
After her family moved to Cyfronydd in 1927, she attended Llagwniew and Llanfair County school.
Doris went to work at Cyfronydd Hall and several other houses before joining the land army in 1942 and then going to work for Mr and Mrs Wilkinson at Rhos farm Sarnau.
She married William Pickstock in April 1949 and moved to Deytheur where she remained an active member of the community.
To celebrate her hundredth birthday she was joined by her children Noreen and Wynne, her granddaughter Hannah and her husband Andrew, as well as great grandsons Jake and Ezra.
For her birthday she requested donations to Welsh Air Ambulance, raising £660 for the life saving charity.
Speaking about her grandmother, Hannah Pickstock said: “Doris Pickstock a well-loved matriarch of the family and much adored great granny to her two grandchildren.
“Her sharp mind and clever whit never fails to amaze us all.
“Doris had a lovely time celebrating her amazing milestone of 100 years at the Sweeney surrounded by family and friends.”
