THE Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club has received a “letter of gratitude” for their help with supporting the Ukrainian refugees that have taken shelter there.
The letter came from Ivan Alexiev, the mayor presiding over the Cambrian's 'twin club' Rotary Club of Promorie in Bulgaria,
Rotary Club members from around the world have been providing support for the victims of the war in Ukraine, including Oswestry Cambrian Rotary, providing their twin club with financial support, ensuring that Ukrainian refugees have what they need to survive while living there.
The Oswestry Cambrian Rotary has already donated £5,000 towards a Rotary International appeal for medical supplies for the Ukraine.
Now, their latest investment has been forwarding £1,350 to the Promorie Club to help support their food bank and the refugee families in their town and surrounding areas.
They called this the “Rotary Effect” as it has helped by replenishing the shelves with plenty of food for the refugees.
Anna Pugh, the club president, said: “Fortunately our fund raising activities in recent months have been very successful, enabling us to contribute to those dealing with the Ukranian crisis while maintaining the level of support we provide to local worthy causes year on year.”
The 'letter of gratitude' has come from town mayor, Mr Alexiev, expressing his appreciation in behalf of everyone involved, and recognising the club's financial contribution.
More than 80,000 refugees have escaped to towns in Bulgaria, and currently there are over 1000 refugees living in the Promorie area.
A spokesman added: “Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club is ready to welcome individuals and couples of 18 plus from the community who want to be 'people of action'.
"The club meets face-to-face at the bar of The Wynnstay Hotel, Church Street, Oswestry, every Thursday evening at 7:30PM. If unable to come in person, people can also join the meeting on Zoom."
